CASE 5
You don’t think
that this is actually the harsh truth, that things like this happen, before
they happen. But even after that an accident happens, and the company has
started to be more careful, at some point, the accident that happened that made
the company think of what they’ve been doing is wrong, will be forgotten, and
they will go back to their old ways of doing things. The problem is that everything
is always about money, saving it form not buying new and safer equipment, or
having an employee doing more than they are physically or mentally able to do.
CASE 5a:
The problem with
this is though that he didn’t tell the Bank that he was suffering from
epilepsy, which was the cause of his death, but also if the Bank didn’t ask
about any conditions he might have, then they should have done that, to be
aware of it. But even though he wouldn’t have been suffering from epilepsy, he
shouldn’t have been doing that much work, without sleep, any normal person needs
sleep as well. I think they should be monitoring the employees more, and seeing
to it that, no one is working to much. (Thomas, E. 22.11.2013.)
CASE 5b:
I think it’s a
great suggestion to have a corporate wellness program. If you take care of your
employees you are also taking care of the company, if the employees are doing
well, then the company is also doing well. If an employee doesn’t have the free
time to go to a class, or the gym on the free time, then it might be easier if
it’s offered during the workday. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t feel good after
some kind of workout, or wellness class, or that eating the right way, taking care of your body, would have ever been harmful. So, the employees will also be more
refreshed. (Morgaine, B. 21.10.2018.)
The statistics
numbers on accidents in 2014 is just terrifying. Those were only in the EU, so
think about the numbers in Asia and the United States. This is just terrible. Of
course, all of these aren’t caused by the employer being at fault, but still. The
stats said that accidents are happening more to men then to women. It said that
it may have to do with the fact that there were more men in the labour force. But
I think it has to do with the fact that men are more careless then women, and
also take more risks, and this isn’t the company’s fault. (Eurostat, 5.2018.)
